Waukesha Metro Transit Center “Fragmented Flow”

Right: Paul Phelps with metal artist Richard Peterson at the Waukesha Metro Transit Center dedication ceremony
Oakbrook Esser Studios was awarded a public art commission by the Waukesha Transit Art Committee in 2003. The work was an exciting collaborative effort with metal artist Richard Peterson of Quantum Prototyping. The glass sculpture was the third public art piece completed and dedicated in August 2007 at the new transit center.

The sculpture is a harmonious integration of fourteen individual stained glass panels glazed into the steel free form shapes connected with steel rods: suspended across the ceiling of the 100’ corridor. The piece emulates waves of the nearby river with fluid shapes and colors from one panel to another . Rich glass tones and textures create interpretive fish-like shapes with a subtle cast of secondary art as light passes at different times of day.
