Founded as the Mother Church of the City the building was originally constructed in 1849, in magnificent neo-Gothic style. In 2001 the complete historical restoration of St. Mary’s Oratory began along with a new north addition.Through a long process of consultation with architects and designers: St. Mary’s Oratory sought out the accomplished American and European stained glass artisans of Oakbrook Esser Studios.
Both the interior and exterior are lavishly decorated. The high arches, spires and ornaments, the deep gold, blue and red colors; the ornate stained glass windows are made of European mouth-blown antique glass with hand-painted details full of religious symbolism.
