Each panel was meticulously removed and lowered down with a low-tech pulley system while the large openings were covered with plywood sheathing for the duration of the restoration. The fragile panes were taken to our company’s Oconomowoc home base where each piece was dismantled, refurbished, and glazed in new copper came construction. The restored panes were brought back to the courthouse and installed into a new bronze and copper frame system joined by stainless steel, adding integrity to the structure. Completed in August of 2005, the newly improved dome is the crowning jewel of a very important historic national treasure. Oakbrook Esser is proud to have been a part in returning the dome to its former glory.
